What Makes Us Different

Most acupuncturists in the US treat patients on tables in private cubicles. This is not traditional in Asia, where acupuncture usually occurs in a community setting. In our clinic, we use comfortable reclining chairs, clustered in groups, in a large, quiet and soothing space. There are many benefits to this setting: it is easy for friends and family to come in for treatment together; patients find it comforting to know that they are in a supportive environment; and a collective energy field becomes established when multiple people come together to heal and relax. Most US acupuncturists see only one or two patients in an hour and charge $75-$150 per treatment. They tend to spend a long time talking with each patient, going over medical records and asking many questions. We don't. We have decided instead to return to the traditional approach - which has been practiced in Asia for thousands of years - of many patients per hour and little talking. We may ask you specific questions about your condition, but primarily we rely on tongue and pulse observations to make our diagnoses. The unfortunate consequence to the modern US model of acupuncture is that patients can not come in more than once a week (at most) and usually stop treatment as soon as their chief symptoms are gone. Here at City Acupuncture, we want you to be able to come in as often as necessary to get better and stay better! Therefore, City Acupuncture of New York offers high quality treatments on a sliding scale from $25 - $50. We will never ask you for any personal or banking records. We leave it up to you to decide how much you can afford.

Unfortunately, because we have a sliding scale, we cannot do insurance billing. This is the insurance companies' rule. If you have insurance that covers acupuncture, you may ask them if they will accept a payment receipt, which we will be happy to provide.
